Game rules

The goal of the game is to win. The winner is the player with the greatest number of total points. The game finishes when one player has 4 cards in each family (4 red cards + 4 blue cards + 4 green cards + 4 yellow cards) or when all the cards have been drawn.

Separate the cards by type (red, blue, yellow, green and Joker cards) and shuffle each pile individually.

Place a selection of cards face up in the center of the table – deal out the same number of cards as the number of players (4 players – 4 cards).

When the signal is given, say “Fripouille” or “Go”, players pick the card they wish to complete their families. The quickest player wins the card.

Repeat until a player has completed all 4 families of cards.

Then count the points: positive points + negative points + each completed family gets an additional 2 points.

The player with the most points wins.

How to complete the families?

When players pick a positive card, they retain it to complete their families or discard it in the “trash pile”.

When players pick a negative card, they retain it to complete their families, discard it in the “trash pile” or impose it into another player’s deck…!

  • This is where strategy is involved – knowing what cards you and your opponents have and need.
  • Players will want to maximize positive point cards and minimize negative point cards.

When players pick a Joker card, the referee or opponent player reads out the Joker card. Follow the instructions.

When players answer a multiple-choice or open-ended question correctly, they can choose one of these actions:

    • 🫳 Take a card from an opponent to add it to their deck;

    • 🗑️ Take a card from an opponent and throw it in the “trash pile”;

    • 🫳 Give one of their cards to another player;

    • 🗑️ Throw one of their cards in the “trash pile”.

Good to know

Once a player has completed a family of four cards (i.e. 4 blue cards), then this family is sealed for that player and cannot be modified. The player cannot continue to collect cards in that family. Each completed family grants two additional points.

Cards should never be hidden. They should be laid out openly.

A 2 in 1 Joker card means that a player completes two families at the same time. One specified family earns 2 points, and the other family gets one point. The 2 in 1 Joker card cannot be applied to a family that is already completed.
